Four Things You Need to Start a Website

Are you planning to build your own website? Congratulations you are on the right page!

Whether you have your own business or promoting your content, it’s no surprise anymore that having an existing website is essential for your company’s success. So if you're interested in putting up your website, here are some helpful tips for you:

Choose a Topic

Choose a Topic- In choosing your topic, you have to identify first your passion. Is writing is your passion? Is art is your passion? Is traveling is your passion? The more knowledgeable you are about the subject matter, the easier it will be for you to share and write content that would spark interest among readers and maintain your enthusiasm to do so. Once you have decided on a topic, it's easier to pick a catchy title that you can use for the domain name. This title will be your URL (Uniform Resource Locator) or brand name that your website will be known for and found when typed into the search bar. For example, my website's content will be more on digital content, so I pick Digiloop as the title and use it as my website domain, www.digiloop.net.

Start coding your website

You can use bootstrap as a framework in creating your site, or if you're not familiar with HTML/CSS coding, you can choose popular content management websites or drag and drop platforms like WordPress, Wix or Joomla.com. These platforms will also allow you to build, manage, and control your site for free. The website URL would be like this: digiloop.wixsite.com/mywebsite or digiloop.wordpress.com. It's okay to use these platforms for articles or lighter contents, but if you're planning to build a website for your business, then I recommend you to start investing for a dedicated host or server to have more control over it. It's for privacy and security purposes as well.

Choose a Domain and Hosting

Once you have chosen a domain name, go ahead to web hosting websites like GoDaddy, Bluehost, and Hostgator.com, to name a few and check if your chosen domain is still available. And there, you'll be asked to select a hosting plan for your website. I recommend selecting the starter pack for your first website that includes the domain name, bandwidth, and disk space. Think of your website as a collection of files. To make your website searchable on the internet, you need to upload your offline data from your computer to the webserver using the hosting services I've mentioned earlier. Hosting companies offer space on these servers, or even on your dedicated web server if you're willing to pay for it.

Promote Your Blog

Once you have your website uploaded on the server, it's now fully operational. It's time to figure out how you're going to get visitors to the site. You can now promote it to social media like Facebook, Youtube, or Instagram to get traffic or even monetize your website.

Creating a website may not be as simple as you first thought. However, if you follow the steps above and use free available resources on the internet, your business will have a great chance to grow soon.
